Swedish school summer holidays. No flexibility, sorry. |
Ocean view. Postmodern architecture by the family friendly beach in Malmö, Sweden
********sorry, absolutely no cats*********
Malmö is the most continental of Sweden´s cities. It´s a vibrant and multicultural place, influenced by Copenhagen across the bridge. It seems to attract one-off works of architecture and design. Malmö has been decribed as a city transforming itself – rather like Manchester – from an industrial city into one with intellectual capital and cultural inventiveness. Malmö has become a destination for visitors all year round!
Our residential area is called Potatisåkern and is one of the foremost examples of post modernistic architecture in Sweden. Our apartment occupies a generous 115 square meters (1238 square feet). The living room and balcony have a nice ocean view. There are three separate bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, and a balcony with ocean view. It comfortably sleeps five to six persons. The yard is a like a small park with two playgrounds and a large lawn area. There is a supermarket 600 m away, and the bus stop is about 300m from our door.
Malmö is one of the few cities anywhere where you can enjoy fine sandy beaches and the summer heat without leaving the city. The 2.5 kilometre long Ribersborg beach – Scandinavia’s Copacabana - is just across the street.

Lifestyle
The marine environment close to the beach offers an active lifestyle as well as quiet relaxation. You can make a tennis or badminton court reservation at nearby Fair Play Stadion. The nine hole pay-and-play Hylliekroken golf court is 1km down the beach.
On the art scene, there are plenty of galleries, a museum of modern art, Malmö Konsthall and Malmö Museum. Malmö Symfoniorkester gives regular concerts, and Malmö Opera presents music theater with emphasis on opera and musical.
The center of Malmö offers shopping along the long pedestrian precincts, and in several shopping malls. Make sure you visit the old town and Lilla Torg, a square surrounded by buildings from 1600-1800, now an area of cosy little shops, cafés and restaurants.
For families, we recommend Malmö Museum, a short walk from our home. It features permanent and temporary exhibitions, a child friendly aquarium- terrarium, and one of the buildings has a great playroom with a naval theme. There is a lunch room where you can bring your own foods. Malmö City has 250 playgrounds, among them 20 free theme playgrounds for families, featuring themes like jungle, circus, ecology, fisheries and music.
Malmö is called the city of parks, and the Western Harbour is an architect´s dream with the masterful Turning Torso, Sweden´s tallest building.
