Small appartment, quiet street in the center of Amsterdam
We live in the heart of Amsterdam, near Nieuwmarkt and Waterlooplein, a 10 mins walk from Central Station. Although central, our street is very quiet.
Please note we live on the third floor and there is no elevator.
Our house is small and full of books and other quirky objects! Most of our furniture is vintage, reclaimed or self built.
At the front of the house, overlooking an old synagogue, is the living/dining room and a home office space. We like family/board games so you'll find plenty. Apple TV present and a projector.
We love bird watching and are lucky enough to have a lively tree in front of our window.
The small bedrooms and kitchen are at the back, accessing a narrow balcony.
Our kid is 14 but has still some toys in his bedroom, specially dinos and lego. He has a "cabin" bed with an extra drawer bed for a second child or a guest.
The kitchen and his bedroom give access to the balcony.
Our tiny bedroom has a wall-to-wall bed and two closets - nothing else fits 😅. Please note our bed is elevated (80 cm) to create storage space under. We do have a step-up if needed.
The narrow balcony is on the north side. We leave it a bit wild and sometimes grow vegetables there. It's also attended by birds due to the hanging bird feeders.
The bathroom has a shower and washing machine. You can hang clothes to dry upstairs.
The kitchen is made of reclaimed furniture with open shelves and has a big fridge, dishwasher, electrical (steam) oven and a retro gas stove. Our quirky home is also pretty full, it reflects our personal passions like comics and love for vintage.
Mother-in-law lives 2 streets away so any help needed she will be happy to provide.
We now have two kittens, so we prefer swaps with pet-care - we will gladly take care of your animals while we trust ours to you.

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
We live in a beautiful part of town: Lastage/Nieuwmarkt!
Despite being situated in the city center, our island and street are remarkably peaceful.
Rembrandt House-Museum is just at the end of the street.
From our house, you can easily explore the entire city on foot, by bike, or public transport, with two metro stations just a 5-minute walk away. We are within walking distance of Amsterdam Central Station (10 mins), so a car is not necessary - we do not own one - and while parking in our street is not challenging, it's quite expensive.
Shops and several supermarkets just around the corner. There are lots of cafés and restaurants in the area, for all tastes and budgets. We are happy to provide tips for families. From Amsterdam you can also visit many places in The Netherlands on one day trips. Feel free to bike, but Amsterdam is challenging for less experiences bikers, as e-bikes are getting dominant and bikers are often ruthless. We have 4 bikes available (2x teen), but as we like retro, don't expect the top of the line 😅.

Very smooth exchange, lovely family! Our house was perfect upon return and Jordi and Mireia's house is very well situated, fantastic view, a great base for discovering Barcelona. Contact was fantastic, they really took care with suggestions and tips for our family. Loved every minute
Guy and Dominique were amazing guests in our house and we loved staying at theirs! We loved every minute of the beautiful garden and the lovely company of petite Zoe.

We are a quiet easygoing family of three.
Our home is filled with books, with one of us working in art books and the other being a graphic designer.
Our teenager is passionate about inline skating, drumming and gaming.
We are an environmentally conscious family, and generally travel by train or bike (or both). We often travel long distances by train, such as from Amsterdam to Lisbon. It's our favourite way to travel. And we are used to puzzle many connections to make it work! Please note we prefer exchanges that don’t require using a car.
We have two young kittens, and are very experienced cat loving people (also for the less easy going cats!). We love pet-sitting, and we often care for our neighbours' chickens and cats. We gladly take care of all animals.
